Moroccan superapp ORA Technologies has raised $7.5 million in Series A funding led by Azur Innovation Fund, joined by three unnamed strategic investors, bringing its total local fundraising to $11.9 million since January 2023 — the largest amount raised domestically by any Moroccan startup to date.

Founded by Omar Alami in 2023, ORA has taken an ambitious swing at building Morocco’s first true superapp, combining P2P transfers, e-commerce, social networking, chat, on-demand services, and a forthcoming mobile wallet in a single interface. The company has positioned itself as both a fintech and retailtech player, layering payments, logistics, and consumer services on top of one another in a market still fragmented across verticals.

This round follows a $1.9 million Pre-Series A secured just four months ago from Witamax and Azur Innovation Fund. The new capital will go toward scaling last-mile infrastructure and digitising Morocco’s still heavily cash-reliant commerce sector, with a particular focus on retail delivery and mobile wallet adoption.

ORA’s food delivery app, Kooul, has reportedly signed up over 15,000 active users in the past 10 months, while ORA Cash, the company’s digital wallet offering, has already onboarded more than 50,000 users in just five months. The wallet is now being piloted as a backend payment layer for couriers handling Morocco’s booming cash-on-delivery economy.

Founder Omar Alami said the deal marks a “landmark moment” for locally-led tech. “It proves local funding alternatives exist for later stages and encourages Moroccan founders to raise more money domestically to scale up,” he said. He credited the momentum to a shift in capital appetite sparked by the Moroccan Sovereign Fund’s mandate to back tech through the Fonds Mohammed VI pour l’investissement, which has helped unlock broader investor interest in the sector.

With a full-stack platform and local investor tailwinds, ORA is betting it can evolve into a foundational layer for digital commerce and payments in Morocco, and eventually, beyond.
